Hosting a "YES on Amendment 2!" House Party

Why a house party?
A house party is the easiest, and most casual and comfortable way to introduce your friends and family to what marriage means to you, and why voting YES on Amendment 2 is so important to the future of our children and communities. Since a "party" is usually thrown in honor or celebration of someone or something, simply host a party for your friends or family to share how important THEY are to you, and how important voting YES on Amendment 2 is. The key is to make it fun and build relationships as you help introduce people to the importance of supporting Amendment 2.
How many people should attend?
A fun and successful house party can be as small as a group of 4-5 people in your living room or around a dining room table, or a group of up to 15-20. This depends upon you, your comfort level and the size of your home. And this doesn't have to be costly! The point is to bring people together in a setting that encourages discussion and gives opportunity for sharing about Amendment 2.
Who should be invited?
Family and Friends
Like-minded Co-workers
Friends from your Women's Bible Study Group (Lady's tea, luncheon, etc.)
Friends from your Church Men's Group (BBQ, Sport's theme, etc.)
Parents of your children's friends from school or camp
Members of your Sunday School Class
What should happen during the party?
The most important message you want people to leave the party with is:
"A YES vote on Amendment 2 in November will do one thing and one thing only - protect the definition of marriage between one man and one woman in Florida."
Here are some suggestions on what to include in your event:
1) Have food and drinks available as people arrive and begin to mingle
2) Place "Yes On 2" Campaign information on a table for people to browse (see suggestions below).
3) Have your home computer or Laptop set to www.Yes2Marriage.org so people can look through various pages of the website.
4) Gather the group together, thank them for coming and take 5-10 minutes to explain why you and your family are voting YES on Amendment 2 to protect marriage. You can simply take your remarks from the "Talking Points for Amendment 2" document provided on our website and customize it for your audience.
5) If possible, show the "Generations" TV ad that is on the homepage of the website.
6) Show one or two of the 10 points in Glen Stanton's "Why Not Gay Marriage" from Focus on the Family. (CLICK HERE to watch on YouTube) (CLICK HERE to purchase DVD).
7) End the "programmed" time by taking any questions your guests may have about Amendment 2. If there are questions that you do not know the answer to, refer them to the website or to contact our office at .
8) YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION to consider this, however running a statewide campaign to protect marriage in a big state like Florida is very expensive. If you felt led to make that need known to your guests, you could invite them to make a donation to the campaign by visiting the "Donate" page on www.Yes2Marriage.org.
